The estate comprises of 2 houses, La MASIA (6 bedroom) and CASA NOVA (4 bedrooms.) The houses are next to each other and create a wonderful space where you can have both privacy and large family gatherings,
The house is a renovated, traditional (16th Masia. (A beautiful stone manor house unique to the area) with vaulted ceilings, terracotta tiles and exposed beams and stonework.
CASA NOVA
Converting the barn was one of the current owners, first grand designs. It has been lovingly restored, with high ceilings and an open plan living area. Here you will discover treasures designed by local artists and some that she has brought back from her travels. A beautiful wrought iron balcony depicts sunflowers and penguins, and encircles the large space. There are two gorgeously mosaicked bathrooms and some hand painted tiles. Shelves are full of local pottery, Moroccan lamps hang from ceilings and framed Indian tapestries colour the walls. All melt into a light and happy ambiance that crafts its magical charm.
The two double bedrooms downstairs are light and airy and imbue the calmness of Mediterranean simplicity. They share one of the delightfully tiled bathrooms with a bath and power shower. Upstairs, the large, master bedroom has an en suite, both a fire and a ceiling fan and a door that leads out onto the upper terrace. There is an adjoining twin room down a small staircase and this is a combination that could be perfect for families with children. Please note these rooms are adjoining.
The upstairs terrace has dreamy views of the national park with an Ibizan style lounge bed and a built in backgammon table providing a fabulous place to watch some epic autumnal sunsets. The upstairs sitting room has a sofa bed arranged in front of an open fire, screen with DVDs, (please note TV only has DVD facilities) and floor to ceiling bookcases. All the bedroom have standing fans.
The modern kitchen has a brand new cooker and oven, large fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle, dishwasher and separate larder. It leads onto a patio that can seat 8-20 for shaded, alfresco dining with its own barbecue. All is decorated by the blues of the pool, greens of the lawn and the grace of an ancient olive tree. Inside you can move freely between the open plan kitchen and the 8 seated dining area which also has a fire place. Fantastic as well in winter the whole house has under floor heating. The house has a small utility room with a washing machine and outdoor clothesline. There is wifi. A travel cot and highchair can be left at request.
LA MASIA (only rented together with Casa Nova for the entire estate)
This C16th century manor house still boasts traditional vaulted ceilings, wooden beams and stone work and terracotta tiled roofs, while including most modern comforts; (5 hob cooker, large oven, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, washing machine, dryer, Wifi and apple TV with DVD player).
The house, built to be fantastically cool in summer with its thick stone walls, has white, clean rooms filled with antique French furniture and some colourful 70s tiling in some of the bathrooms which lends the house its quirk and charm.
The downstairs is cool, cosy and cavernous. There is a small snug, lined with bookcases, where you can watch our extensive DVD collection, which has a lovely guarded fire. A fully equipped kitchen leads onto a castle-esque, stone dining room which can seat up to 22 for majestic suppers. The kitchen's north end opens out onto a raised garden terrace with both a barbecue and a wood burning oven, fantastic for pizzas and roasts. The teak dining table seats 12 and is surrounded by herbs, lavender, bay and walnut trees and an old roman well. There is a downstairs loo, cold shower and ample space for outdoor clothes in a large cloakroom by the utility cupboard.
The upstairs sitting room is magnificent. A massive, vaulted ceiling houses 3 sofas around a large open fire. The atmosphere is warm and appealing. An outside terrace, with shaded seating, looks south onto the tiled roofs of Casa Nova and over into the donkey’s meadow. A great night's sleep can be enjoyed in all the comfortable rooms; the master bedroom has an en suite bathroom, two double bedrooms share a bathroom and a twin bedroom also has an en suite bathroom. Again the décor is light and discerning. The beds are large and comfortable either king or queen size.
In the spacious attic, two adjoining rooms have 1 small double and 4 large single beds and share a shower and loo.
All the bedrooms have standing fans.
Sleeps a maximum of 22.
THE ESTATE
The 100 acre estate runs into the Gavarres national park through un fallowed meadows providing stunning views and and uninterrupted peace. While we are close to the pretty and very tranquil, medieval village of Sant Marti Vell the house is surrounded by huge pine trees and you have wonderful peace and quiet.
Our mother planted a delightful garden reflecting her fun, colourful and passionate nature.
As you pass through the electric gates, you are welcomed by iconic Cyprus tress lining the driveway up to the houses.
The houses themselves are covered in bright wisteria and sweet honeysuckle. A palm tree welcomes you to discover a well kept, large and fertile lawn while lemon, orange, walnut, plum, apple, fig, olive and pomegranate saplings add their fruitiness. There is even a magical wood where fairies leave treasure for well behaved children.
In spring white and pink blossom is in abundance and the surrounding meadows are full of poppies. Roses bloom in the garden through out the summer and the countryside is a blur of yellow sunflowers. In Autumn the surrounding trees are ablaze in stunning orange and reds.
You can pet the donkeys or there is a ping pong table to amuse yourself with a sandpit for toddlers and a trampoline for kids, or just sit back and read a book by the pool. The pool has 12 sun loungers to tan on and you can also recline on benches in the shade.
The two outside barbecues, shaded dining area for 20 and the open air dining area with a wood burning oven make great al fresco eating areas for long leisurely lunches.
The sunsets can be incredible over the national park and you can enjoy both them and the nights 3D, star studded skies from the comfort of two upper terraces. There is even a telescope to star gaze.
Situated within the stunning national park of Les Gavarres, the property boasts breathtaking views and spectacular walks. 420m below a famous monastery from which there are views of both the Sea and Pyrenees.
A medieval village is in short walking distance with a fantastic restaurants and is just one of many such historical villages in an area renowned for its gastronomical prowess.
Ideal for families or groups of friends who want to relax in the summer sun with its terraces, outdoor BBQs, large 12m pool and garden. It is only 15mins from a stunning coastline and watersports.
Magical in winter with fires and underfloor heating in the Villa, it is only 1 1/2 hours drive from the ski slopes, 20mins from Girona with its shops, restaurants, historic buildings and international airport and 1 hour from Barcelona.
