For lazy afternoons spent by the sea, you can use the villa’s private beach or visit Kitroplatia Beach. There’s also Almyros Beach – a large sandy stretch set in a sheltered cove, and the water is shallow so children can swim there safely.
From Agios Nikolas, you can catch a ferry to the island of Spinalonga, where there’s an old Venetian fortress. You can also head east to Crete’s capital Heraklion, north to the town of Ierapetra or west to Sitia. You’ll find traditional villages, Medieval castles, Byzantine monasteries and secluded coves.
