Enjoy your morning coffee on the deck watching the howler monkeys play in the trees or just watch and listen to the sounds and life of the natural jungle around you. Located in the foothills of the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest, with the majestical Macal River just down the road, you're in a nature lover's and adventurist's paradise.
Hike the local trails, explore the local village permaculture garden 'Fluttery Finca'. Our community is a bird watcher's paradise. It's home to hundreds of birds, and jungle wildlife. You'll see possums, bats, butterflies, howler monkeys, toucans, tapirs, ocelots, white hawks, toucans and parrots. Down at the Macal river you can just relax and swim or dive off the rocks. Take a canoe or kayak ride, or charter the local Belizean pontoon boat to explore the three local waterfalls. You can hike and swim the waterfalls, or watch and enjoy. Spot the iguanas. Watch white hawks flying overhead. You might even see the resident crocodile!
Our modern cabin comes fully equipped for all your needs - 2 good sized bedrooms with comfortable new beds, linens provided, towels, hot shower, fully equipped kitchen with gas stove and fridge, Berkie water filter, and more. Experience complete off grid living powered with solar. In the local area, you can explore mayan caves and ruins, go cave-tubing, go horseback riding, zip-lining and more.

Résumé: We really enjoyed our stay at Rita's cabin, Jungle Escape Belize, in the EcoVillage of Better in Belize ! We stayed for a week and during that time we saw the Howler Monkeys every day( they even roosted in the trees on the property a few times which was an early wake up call!) lots of birds including parrots, tucans and many more we couldn't ID. The jungle setting was just what we wanted. The cabin itself was as represented on VRBO. It had everything we needed to cook and relax. Lucy, the caretaker, explained to us how the water and power worked and checked in with us every few days to make sure all was going well and to set up any tours we wanted to do. This service I would highly recommend.! The Che Chen Ha cave tour with William was great! He is very knowledgeable and personable. Also, the river pontoon boat tour with Emile was a lot of fun. and the lunch was wonderful. I would advise people coming to stay to take seriously the 4 wheel drive recommendation. The road from Benque Viejo is about a half hour dirt/rock road, which was ok to drive but the road in the Better in belize village could be a little more exciting without 4 wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive on our rental did not work and the drive in and out was doable, but an adventure! Thanks again to Rita, Lucy and Marcos for a really memorable stay!
