Being a local I can´t think of a better place to stay in Aljezur! Surrounded by breathtaking views over vibrant farmland and the Monchique mountains - this cozy home is located in a quiet village in the historical region of Aljezur. A warm & calming space filled with lots windows inviting sunlight and uplifting energy, this cute home has 2 small bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, loft with dining area, bathroom and living room.
This is a typical Portuguese house: tranquil, simple, and clean - this place is not luxurious, but has all you need. It has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed (140x200) and one smaller one with 2 single beds, a bathroom with a big shower, a loft which is used as a dining area and a well equipped kitchen. A nice new feature is the water osmose machine which gives drinking water, so no need anymore to buy plastic bottles of water!
Placed in the hills of rich history and authentic Portuguese culture, this place is truly a hidden treasure. Guests will fall in love with the rustic village atmosphere, as well as quick access to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Casa Aljezur brings the best of both worlds - allowing travelers to be able to enjoy activities in town, museums, hikes, surfing, social gatherings, etc. and retreat back to a comfy, adorable place to rest.
Also good to know that you will have great neighbours who are there to help or advice you with anything.
The street itself is a dead end, small, historical street which means no traffic will pass. If you are a good driver and have a small but strong car you will be able to drive the car in front of the house, but you will have to reverse back to get out.
We always advice to park the car in the car park +/-100 m on top of the house, and walk your luggage down. For (older) people who can not walk easily this might be an issue.
The advantage of having this house is of course that there is no traffic and the road is used as a terrace and since it is on a hill there are amazing views over Aljezur towards the mountains of Monchique.
Casa Aljezur's guests walk to the municipal market (a 5-minute downhill stroll) for the best local fresh fish and produce, or just to enjoy the atmosphere. On their way through the narrow old streets they pass the municipal museum, the original village church, and they cross the road that leads to the old moorish castle. To walk up to the castle, you can also take the narrow footpaths starting behind the house and winding between the neighbours´ backyards.
In the opposite direction, the street takes you to the road leading along the creek to Amoreira beach, one of the most beautiful in the region, with a small river running all the way to the ocean, a sandy beach with dunes and a rocky beach area with natural pools packed with ocean life.
For a short stay, Casa Aljezur's guests can walk from the house to most of the interest points in the small town of Aljezur. The area has grown very popular with hikers, thanks to the Vicentina Route and the famous fishermen trail, wich you can join easily from Aljezur. If you are not a hiker, you can cycle down to Amoreira beach, but there's much to explore in the region, so we would recommend driving. Aljezur village was an ancient crossing for commercial routes and gives you access to as far as the city of Lagos, in the South, the SW tip of Europe, Sagres, or the Alentejo towns of Zambujeira and Odemira in close to 30 min driving.
