A stone’s throw from the walls of Nardo’s historic castle and the town’s beautiful centro storico, La Lanterna is a spacious 3 bedroom house (180 sim) with garden courtyard.
We have 3 large double bedrooms, a big fully equipped kitchen dining area and 2 bathrooms. Towels and bed linen are provided. We can cater for up to 7 adults and if needed there is a sofa bed and fold out bed for children. The bedrooms have AC and there is WIFI. The house comfortably hosts big groups.
Typical of Salento, the house has star vaulted ceilings in all bedrooms and kitchen dining area. The rooms are big and airy. The large garden courtyard provides dining and recreational space (unusual in Nardo) and is overlooked by the imposing Church of San Francesco da Paola. There is free parking on the streets near the house .
A 5 minute stroll from the Castle’s botanical gardens and you are in Piazza Salandra, which boasts being the prettiest Baroque piazza in southern Italy and is the heart of Nardo. At night time the piazza bustles with local life, often with music, food or wine events. In the quiet of the morning it is the perfect place to sit and enjoy an espresso, in the afternoon an aperitif and to soak up the spirit of the Mezzogiorno!
Nardo is a beautiful baroque town and a delight to explore. The lovely costal village of Santa Maria al Bagno is less than 5km away, the water in this part of the Ionian Coast is breathtakingly beautiful and a fantastic place to swim and eat. Just around the headland to the north of Santa Maria is another hidden gem, Santa Caterina with its own dazzling display of coastal beauty. In the summer there is a regular bus on Via Roma by the Castle (2 minutes from the house) that takes you to Santa Maria and Santa Caterina. Bikes can be hired from the Tourist Centre in Piazza Salandra. Porto Selvaggio, a nature reserve is nearby and Gallipoli is 14km from La Lanterna, while Galatina is 16.6km and Otranto 36 km. We are less than 1km from Nardo train station and 70km from the nearest airport( Brindisi – Salento).
Within 5.6km you can reach the beaches Santa Maria al Bagno and Santa Caterina. Lido Conchiglie is 8km away, Gallipoli 14km, Galatina and Galatone 20 minutes, Otranto 45 minutes, the Porto Selvaggio Nature Park 10 minutes and Lecce 25 minutes by car or 1 hour by train.
