Mill of Tilquhillie is a former water mill which has been completely renovated to provide comfortable and characterful holiday accommodation. This charming, listed cottage is situated in a peaceful country setting 2 miles from Banchory and 20 miles from Aberdeen and Aberdeen Airport.
Accommodation is on two floors. The main door opens on to a landing with stairs leading up to the open plan kitchen and the main double bedroom.
The kitchen is a delightful galleried room overlooking the main living area, well appointed including a microwave, dishwasher and table and seating for 4.
Stairs lead down from the front door to the main living area, a light, spacious room containing two comfortable sofas, and a wood burning stove. Opening off the living area is a shower-room containing an electric shower, hand basin, WC, and heated towel rail.
The second bedroom opens off the rear of the main living room and was originally where the fire was set to toast the grain in the original mill and resembles an upside down pyramid of granite. Inspired by the interiors of boats, the owners have built one full sized bed into either side of the room, both about four feet off the ground with three steps up to each bed and ‘lee-boards’, slings of material, which are attached up to the ceiling at night time. This small,unique and delightful room has been adored by children and adults alike.
To the front of the cottage is an enclosed, private garden with a patio table and chairs to enjoy the morning sun. To the rear is another patio which lies within a few yards of the waterfall from the mill stream and with a view of the large wildlife pond, a favourite visiting spot for herons, wild ducks and Roe deer. There is a barbeque, picnic table and sun umbrella ideal for eating outside during the summer months.
The Mill of Tilquhillie is situated within the garden of the owners own house with its own ample parking area. Although it has its own enclosed garden, older children are very welcome to explore the woods and rough ground on the property. However there is a lot of open water on the site and although young children are most welcome, they must be supervised at all times.
The cottage is a peaceful base from which to enjoy the beauty of Royal Deeside. There are some wonderful areas to walk and enjoy the spectacular scenery or if you prefer, there are many National Trust castles nearby including our local Crathes Castle, world famous for its gardens. In the winter you may spend the day skiing at the Lecht – an hour’s drive away – or a little further and you could experience the Cairngorm Mountain Railway. There are golf courses, driving ranges and whisky distilleries within easy driving distance and Highland Games throughout the Summer.
