Sea J's, KI: Heritage meets contemporary - Sea J's,KI features 2 living areas: the old and the new.
The new: modern open plan fully-equipped kitchen with everything you might need, dining room, 2 bathrooms each with a shower and toilet, lounge and a renovated fully equipped laundry, with a split-system air-conditioner. Fully self-catered stay, with all linen supplied - beds are made up according to your request. A start-up supply of tea, coffee, sugar and toilet paper is provided.
The old: 4 bedrooms and a 2nd lounge with cosy combustion fire.
This is a very historic place - in part built from Fireball Bates' cottage (c.1870), which was the first stone house in SA, pre-dating white settlement. Historic photos and information are located in the fireplace lounge room for your interest.
This house is well worth a week or more - enjoy meandering down to your own beach, fishing from your rocks or taking a short walk to the main swimming beach and town amenities.

Serious chill-out and relaxation mode will take over as you realise you are amid an abundance of wildlife - daily sightings of dolphins, seals, penguins and, if you are lucky in the right season, whales.
Guest access
Guests have the entire 4 bedroom house, large deck and back yard adjoining the surrounding coastal reserve for your enjoyment to swim, fish and explore. The lock-up garage, however, has no guest access.
Interaction with guests
We are currently based in Adelaide, but Paul will phone to ensure you arrive safely and all is in order. We have a manager/caretaker in Penneshaw who is able to assist if the need arises. Please call Paul on (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).
The neighbourhood
You really have no neighbours and are surrounded by the ocean. Absolute, uninterrupted ocean frontage, with a gorgeous 750 m stroll around Christmas Cove Marina to the Penneshaw Pub, cafes, restaurants and town. The ferry terminal is an easy 1.2 kms from your door.

Sea J's, KI is an oasis - a comfortable, fully-equipped and self-catering Island getaway, located on the pristine waters of the Gulf of St Vincent. At Sea J's, you are part of the view.
Warm yourself in front of the cosy combustion fire or enjoy alfresco living on the spacious deck and take in the spectacular views.
Open living areas are spacious, with 2 very comfortable lounge areas, both with their own heating, TVs and DVDs. The main lounge/dining also has a hi-fi system and LOADS of CDs and the other has a cosy combustion heater, Wii & Playstation.
Adults can enjoy some space in one living area whilst children enjoy a DVD or play games in another.
Enjoy drinks and alfresco dining on the spacious deck while you take in Investigator Strait, on the doorstep.
The 4 bedrooms, each with fans, accommodate 9 people. Bedroom 3 has a King bed, Bedrooms 1 and 2 have queen beds and Bedroom 4 (adjoining Bedroom 3), has two singles and a trundle bed. All beds have pillows, doonas and blankets.
Sea J's adjoins reserves, allowing for plenty of car/boat parking and room for the kids to kick a ball and play games.

Getting Around
There are no taxi services in Penneshaw, but Sea J's is well-located in that you can take an easy walk to town and also to the main beach/ferry. There is a car rentals option - Hertz, which means you can book a hire car to pick up in Penneshaw (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Sealink offers Island a range of Island tours, to suit every budget and taste - call 13 13 01. There is also on offer the Island Hopper - a bus service leaving from opposite the Fire Station (next to the tennis courts), which can take you to all major towns on the Island.
Other things to note
History of the house:
Sea J's, KI is built from remnants of the original house of George 'Fireball' Bates and is verified as the oldest stone house in South Australia, predating the first Europeans in 1836 - certification is displayed on the wall in the fire lounge room.
Bedroom 3 was the town's Post Office during the First World War. All of South Australia's mail was distributed from this room. The original door is still in use and features the letter slot and holes where messages were posted.
The adjoining garage (no guest access) was the town's blacksmith's shop, next door was the butcher and across the road is the Island's oldest church. This was the original town centre.

Please restrict showering and bathing to a minimum, to help preserve water - a very precious resource in South Australia. Also, please use the half-flush function in the toilet, where possible.
If you lower the blinds to maximise your use of the deck, please roll up and secure the blinds on exiting the house or if inclement weather is predicted.
