Umbria is the region that gave birth to Saint Francis of Assisi and one of the most deeply spiritual itineraries is undoubtedly the visit to the places linked to the monk such as Gubbio and Assisi. In particular we suggest to visit the spectacular frescoes by Giotto about Saint Francis' life, which are a milestone in the Art History, inside the Upper Basilica in Assisi (reachable in just 30 minutes by car). At about 27 km there is the beautiful Perugia, the regional capital. Perugia is a city of art, rich in monuments which fortunately have come down to us from ancient times, as recalled by the numerous findings. This city hosts an important international university and offers a vibrant nightlife with its several bars and restaurants. Do not miss in October the chocolate festival that attracts visitors from all over Europe. Moreover, every July you can attend the Umbria Jazz Festival, one of the most important Italian and International Jazz music festivals.
