Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking. . Firthview is located in a peaceful area from which to base yourself for an active holiday or relaxing retreat. Located just off the North Coast 500 route this property was completely refurbished in 2021. This coastal cottage is part of a traditional croft-based smallholding in Caithness with views of the Pentland Firth, Orkney Islands and surrounding countryside. Firthview is a traditional croft cottage that has been lovingly restored to create a fantastic far north holiday home for up to four people. This beautiful old yet modern cottage has all that you will want for your stay on the dramatic north coast of Scotland. Entering the cottage you are greeted with a fully equipped kitchen where views of the sea can be enjoyed – everyone will want to do the dishes! Through into the older part of the cottage is the living/dining room which enjoys a double aspect, so lots of light pours into the space. Views from the living/dining room are of the surrounding crofting land, rural idyllic scenery where you’ll spot the owners sheep going about their business. Beyond this space there’s a spacious double bedroom with a king size bed and a lovely twin room. The bathroom has been cleverly finished and is perfect for the whole family. Outside of the property there’s a large garden which is full of character an area- border fence made from local slabs of Caithness stone – they’re really very attractive. The garden is south facing and with the amount of sunlight this far north in the summer months, it’s one of the best sun traps around!
The Firthview croft leads right down to the firth which you can see from the cottage, the Pentland Firth. So even though the route down on foot is a little steep you do have direct access to the sea from Firthview. Perfect for those that want to explore, with a stream (good for Poohsticks when there’s sufficient flow) which comes out on the beach in a lovely waterfall with lots of rockpools to explore too. Views out to the Pentland Firth also take in the small island of Stroma just offshore as well as the Orkney Islands. Amazing Hoy can be spotted on most days, and so too can South Ronaldsay. Because you’re so close to the islands it would be a shame not to nip over for at least one day trip. The ferry from Gills Bay only a couple of miles away from Firthview takes foot passengers and cars over to St Margarets Hope on South Ronaldsay from which via causeways you can explore the likes of Kirkwall, Stromness, the Ring of Brodgar and Skara Brae, as well as many other amazing sights. Staying on the Scottish mainland you have many amazing places to visit and explore near to Firthview. The Castle of Mey is only a few miles down the road, and so too is iconic John O’Groats. Near to the famous landmark is Duncansby Head and the amazing Duncansby Stacks, well worth a walk to see. Dunnet Head is an amazing RSPB Reserve and the accompanying stretch of sand Dunnet Beach is incredible, especially if you like to try surfing. Thurso and Wick beyond theses two towns the North Coast 500 route beckons you on to explore some of the best places in the whole of Scotland.
