Bosco Gurin, the only “German-speaking” settlement in Ticino is one of Switzerland’s most charming villages. The unique typical wooden and rock built “Walser”houses and the particular stalls scattered around the nucleus mark the village scape of Bosco Gurin. They are a living testimony of the Alpine ‘Walser’ population that more than seven centuries ago (in 1253) colonized the valley, coming from Valais.
Situated on 1503 meters above sealevel above the Maggia valley, it is the highest mountain village in Ticino. Surrounded by magnificent peaks, like the Wandfluhhorn (Pizzo Biela) – the highest summit of the Bosco Gurin valley, the view is open towards the Maggia Valley. This panoramic scenic beauty can be best admired from the alps and peaks above the village, that one can reach by hiking, biking, or also with the chairlift, that leads skiers into the lovely skiarea, but also runs in summer. Down in the village, or up on the terrace of the cozy Grossalp hut – Bosco Gurin is a peaceful place in harmony with the nature around.
A trip to Bosco Gurin is an experience. A visit in the tiny supermarket or the local bakery are part of the athmosphere as well as a visit in one of the oldest houses of the village, dating from 1386, today home to the local history museum. This town has been able to maintain over time, the traditions and the language, even today the “Ggurijnartitisch” is widely spoken by the residents.
