Résumé: We had deliberately chosen this vacation home because it was already clear from the location that this is an area with very few tourists. This proved to be the case - apart from the sound of the sea, which was really loud at times (Atlantic coast!), all you can hear is birdsong! Unfortunately there was no swimming (we were there in June). On the one hand because the surf was far too strong, on the other hand because the area in the sea separated by boulders is somewhat calmer, but these boulders would also have to be overcome on the beach and in the water - we had also been warned about the strong current. However, this did not bother us. The kitchen was exceptionally well-equipped. What was really annoying was the weak electrical fuse in the house. The main fuse blew for every consumer that was switched on apart from the fridge! No matter whether it was the kettle, the toaster or the hairdryer (not to mention the washing machine - without someone standing at the fuse box to switch the fuse, which was blown every second, back on again, nothing worked! That can make your stay a bit miserable! It was also not clear from the photos that the bedroom can only be reached from the outside via an adventurous staircase to the attic. This should be made a little clearer. Especially as it often rained and at night you have to go outside (and wet) in your pyjamas via the wooden stairs to get to the bathroom downstairs on the ground floor. In the bedroom, which is very large, there was not a single cupboard in which you could have put your clothes from the suitcase, nor any storage or shelves for them. There was also no bedside table for the second place in the double bed, nor a bedside lamp. The access to the house is more than adventurous. As frequent visitors to Madeira, we are used to a lot. This path (you can hardly call it a road) tops everything we have ever experienced in terms of steepness and narrowness. No two cars can pass each other (but there are small passing places), and the hairpin bends provide excitement before every bend - fortunately there is usually not much traffic. During our stay in June, it was raining heavily and so it happened several times that rocks fell onto the road and very large chunks of stone narrowed the path even further. Fortunately, none of them hit us! The internet and mobile phone network are extremely poor, probably due to the location - but we knew that from the comments of the previous tenants. The nearest supermarket is 15 minutes away in Santana, which wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the access road to the house... The support provided by Jean-Philippe, who was always available and explained many things to us as well as taking care of minor repairs, deserves a positive mention.
